Roberto Soldado’s protracted £25.8million club-record transfer to Tottenham is imminent after he was left out of Valencia’s tour of the United States.

Spurs have been locked in talks with Los Che representatives for a month as they seek to strengthen their strikeforce, but the switch is expected to be finally sealed later today or tomorrow.

The 28-year-old Spain international has scored six times in 11 games for his country and bagged 24 goals in La Liga last season, making him a top summer transfer priority for Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Valencia have stripped Soldado of the club captaincy and took his image off advertising for last weekend’s friendly with AC Milan.

He has apparently agreed personal terms in principle on a four-year deal with Spurs and the only issue holding up the deal at the moment is the amount of money owed as commission to Soldado’s agent.

Valencia are in serious debt and need to sell by Saturday to avoid a big hike in Spanish tax demands, and sources in the port city say business should be concluded within the next 24 hours.

Valencia are already seeking a replacement to lead their attack and are trying to attract Fernando Torres on a season-long loan from Chelsea after being rebuffed in their approach for Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud.

Former Tottenham forward Helder Postiga, now with Real Zaragoza, is another potential candidate to lead the Spanish club’s attack as they press for Champions League football next term.

Soldado’s arrival at White Hart Lane could mean that either Emmanuel Adebayor or Jermain Defoe will be sold in the next month.
