The Premier League was bereft of goals this afternoon, with all the scorelines remaining 0-0 until the 68th-minute when Nathan Redmond opened the scoring for Norwich against Southampton.

After the intriguing lunchtime tie between Manchester City and Hull, the 3pm Premier League kick-offs struggled to spark into life before a late surge of goals sealed wins for Norwich, Stoke and Newcastle.

Redmond’s strike proved enough to separate Norwich and Southampton at Carrow Road.

The 19-year-old has impressed for the Canaries since his summer move from Birmingham and opened his account for his new club, cutting inside to fire low into the bottom corner.

At Upton Park, Jermaine Pennant scored his first goal in 63 games to give Stoke all three points.

The former Liverpool man hit an 82nd-minute free-kick to give Mark Hughes his first win on the road as Potters boss and condemn West Ham to their first defeat of the campaign.

Newcastle had managed just one shot on target in their opening two Premier League games this season, but continued to knock on the door against Fulham and the Magpies got their reward with four minutes remaining.

An impressive Hatem Ben Arfa strike secured his side’s first three points of the campaign, with Yohan Cabaye returning to action following Arsenal’s £10m bid.

Elsewhere, Roberto Martinez is still in search of his first win as Everton boss, having seen his side draw their third successive game, as the Toffees played out a 0-0 draw at Cardiff.

Everton did have their chances to win the game but struggled to convert, leaving the newly-promoted Bluebirds with another promising result.
