Jose Mourinho has reportedly stormed out of a pre-match press conference in Romania after taking exception to journalists asking about the omission of Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne has not travelled with the Chelsea squad for tomorrow’s Champions League tie against Steaua Bucharest, while Eden Hazard also remains in London due to injury.

But after being hounded with questions over his exclusion of Juan Mata since the start of the season, talk has now turned to Belgian winger De Bruyne.

‘I don’t like this tendency that you only ask about the players not selected,’ said Mourinho before walking out of the press conference.

‘This is fantastic because no one asks me about Mata. Three weeks you have been asking me about Mata.

‘I try to decide by what they do on the pitch when they play and what they do in training. I make mistakes but I try to be honest all the time.

‘With Kevin, he’s not been selected because I didn’t like the match he played against Swindon.’

Chelsea’s large squad naturally means players big-name players will be left out of the Portuguese’s squad from time to time, with Mata, Demba Ba and summer signing Willian among those having been left at home at some stage this season.

And 22-year-old De Bruyne, who also missed Saturday’s trip to Tottenham, is the latest to draw attention from the media.
