Everton boss Roberto Martinez has challenged Romelu Lukaku to fire his club into the Champions League – and extend his loan move from Chelsea for a second season, writes Alan Nixon in the Sunday People.
The big Belgian striker scored his eighth of the season in a 4-0 Goodison romp over Stoke that put the Toffees in the top four.
Lukaku is willing to commit to the Merseysiders for a second season if they make the Champions League.
And Martinez beamed: “He has put pressure on himself – he needs to get 25 to 30 goals and get us there.”
Martinez played down the row between Lukaku and Jose Mourinho after the Chelsea chief hinted that the striker had asked to leave the west Londoners.
“There are no issues between the clubs – quite the opposite,” he said. “He is enjoying his football and has become a very important player for us.
“We will see where we are at the end of the season.”
