Arsenal’s hopes of landing Julian Draxler on deadline day hang in the balance – with widespread reports they’ve reached deadlock with Schalke over the fee – so Mirolslav Klose is now being linked with a move to the Emirates.

Draxler has been subject of a high-profile Gunners pursuit and in a saga of numerous twists and turns Arsenal have looked close to landing him several times, only to be frustrated so far.

With Schalke playing hardball over their fee for Draxler – they are holding out for a figure approaching the player’s £37million release cause which kicks in in the summer – Arsene Wenger is looking at his options.

And vastly-experienced Germany striker Klose is reportedly a prime target for a loan move from Lazio, though at 35 he is very much a short-term option.

Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker are all international team-mates of the former Bayern Munich star.
