Tottenham’s Younes Kaboul is set to ‘pull a Sol Campbell’ and join rivals Arsenal in the summer on a free transfer, according to reports.

The French defender is out of contract in the summer, and with the Gunners likely to be searching for a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, the Daily Star claims Kaboul has told friends he’d be interested in a switch.

Kaboul, 28, is best friends with Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby, and any move across north London would bring back painful memories for the Spurs faithful who lost former captain Campbell to the Gunners on a free back in 2001.

Meanwhile, Vermaelen, who is likely to seek a summer exit from the Emirates if he fails to win back his place in the first-team, has called on Arsene Wenger to remain with the club for the foreseeable future.

Vermaelen said: ‘Everybody wants him to stay as long as he can.

‘He’s been incredible what he’s done for this club and for the players as well.

‘We would be really happy for signing on for a few more years.’
